Care of Oriental Rugs
The majority of Oriental rugs are made with wool because of its beauty and durability. An Oriental rug is a purchase for a lifetime and will last for many generations if properly maintained. According to the ORRA, wool rugs are extremely durable and consistently out-perform other materials. And, wool is a renewable resource.
Cleaning
A professional Oriental rug cleaning will enhance your carpets, bringing out the richness of color and softness of the wool. Depending on the amount of traffic, a professional washing is recommended every three to five years for the cleaning of your Oriental rug.
Rotation
To insure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.
Vacuuming
Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe. As a general rule, vacuum with a low level suction, using a new bag.
Padding
A quality pad under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear and slippage. We will be pleased to provide you with the correct padding.
Moth Proofing
Moths can cause extensive damage to Oriental rugs. Not only do moths eat the pile, but they also eat the knots on the back of a rug. Moths are especially attracted to the areas such as those under furniture that remain relatively undisturbed. Moth proofing may be necessary from time to time.
Crushed Pile
To up-right the piles that are indented or crushed by the legs of heavy furniture, brush the depressed area with a soft brush. Moisten the area by a spray and follow again by brushing.
